Curriculum Structure

Holy Spirit Catholic School is a small, family-oriented school. Our classrooms are multi-age classrooms with two grades in each room. Grades are grouped as Kindergarten, 1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, and 7 & 8. Each classroom contains no more than twenty students. As a small school, our environment preserves a familial, faith-centered atmosphere, and fosters a stronger sense of mutual commitment between the staff and families. Students learn from one another in ways not possible in larger classroom settings.

In a split-grade classroom system a student will have the same teacher for two years in elementary grades. Our middle school students have the same two teachers for four years, one for classes Social Studies, Math and Science, and one for Religion and English Language Arts.  For non-core curriculum classes, such as Art, Music, Computers, PE and Spanish, teacher are provided by Brighton Schools through shared services.

Some curriculum is alternated bi-yearly so that students have a complete academic experience. For more information about the benefits of multi-age classrooms see a recent article in Psychology Today by clicking here.
