Grade Preschool through Grade 4 Teachers

Mrs. Debbie Gesell

My name is Debbie Gesell.  I am your child’s Preschool teacher. I am so excited to have the opportunity to be with your children and it is my hope we can give your child the experiences he/she needs to grow and learn this school year.

I earned an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood from Ferris State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement from Central Michigan University.  In addition, I have several hours toward a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and many hours of continuing education classes.

I am an active member of St. Joseph Church in Dexter.  I have taught religious education classes for the parish as well as lead Liturgy of the Word for Children. Teaching at Holy Spirit is an honor and a blessing for me.  I am so excited to teach your children about our amazing and loving God.

My favorite thing about working with young children is that you can see the growth in them daily.  As the children ask questions, experiment, make mistakes, put plans into action, interact with each other, and accomplish new things, they are constantly learning.  It is fascinating how the children teach each other just by being learners themselves.

If you have any questions in regards to the Preschool program here at Holy Spirit, I can be contacted at

Mrs. Elizabeth Rodriguez-McGirt

My name is Elizabeth Rodriguez-McGirt. I feel so blessed to be teaching at Holy Spirit Catholic School. I received my B.S. in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement from Eastern Michigan University in 2007. I am a ‘profesora de vocación’ as we say in Spanish: that is, I am a teacher by vocation, with the full understanding that I obey a higher calling to minister to young children. I am married and have two sons, and we are parishioners at St. Thomas the Apostle in Ann Arbor.

Kindergarten is a wonderful year of growth and discovery and during this time I strive to support the whole child body, mind, and spirit. Children will be enriched in a classroom with purposeful planning, relevant, challenging lessons and unique engaging experiences, designed to award the children a strong foundation for educational growth. As a Catholic educator, I present all material from a faith-based perspective, forever cognizant to keep God at the heart of every lesson. In doing so, I am able to demonstrate that faith and wisdom are clearly intertwined by God’s own design.

I relish spending time with my family each day. I also enjoy reading, running with my dog Eli,
cooking, and kayaking. . I look forward to sharing my love of learning with your child, and I am
truly honored to be a part of their journey.

You may contact me at if you have any questions about the Kindergarten program.

Mrs. Laura Ceresa

Grades 1 & 2

My name is Laura Ceresa. This is my sixth year teaching here at Holy Spirit Catholic School.  I am married and have two children, and we are members at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howell.

I received my B.A. in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement from Eastern Michigan University, and my Master’s in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College . I also have my Advanced Catechetical Certificate.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching 1st and 2nd grade!  I feel that at this age especially, children have such a love for life and truly possess a desire to please.   Students become so excited when they learn something new, which makes teaching fun!  I like seeing them grow as readers.  I am so blessed to have the opportunity each year to prepare my 2nd grade students to celebrate their First Reconciliation and receive their First Holy Communion.

Outside of school I love spending time with my family! We enjoy swimming, biking, and kayaking together.  I also enjoy reading, cooking, and baking.

You may contact me at if you have any questions about 1st or 2nd grade or the Sacraments received during students’ 2nd grade year.

 Miss Kelly Hager

Grades 3 & 4

I attend St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education as well as a certification in Social Studies in grades 6-8. After graduating from EMU, I was a 2nd grade long-term substitute teacher at Creekside Elementary in Hartland, Michigan.  I have been teaching third and fourth grade at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic School for four years.

Outside of school and church, I like to spend my time traveling. The past couple of years I spent my holiday breaks traveling to France, Belgium, Germany, and Spain. During the summer months, I love to garden. I also enjoy swimming and taking my two dogs, Sammy and Eddy, for walks around my neighborhood. I am an avid reader and try to read at least 3 books a month.  My contact information is if you have any questions about third or fourth grade here at Holy Spirit School.
